Not to dwell at any length on the noteworthy qualities of this singular Abbess, but merely to illustrate her ecclesiastical virtue, the moment she learned we had already dined at an inn but a few miles distance, she suggested that upon settling our belongings, we should repair ourselves to the Abbey's Guest-Welcome-Lounge.
Here to our delight we found awaiting us glasses to be filled with the Abbey's best port wine and platters of butter biscuits especially baked for our indulgence by Swithelbury Abbey's Cuisine-Sisters.
The Abbess gracing us with her presence at once brightened our thoughts and loosened our tongues with lively chatter.
After an hour spent in this manner we were then led by two of the Swithelbury Hospitality sisters to our Rest-and-Recovery Dormitory where, tired from our travels, no sooner had we bedded down on our comfortable cots than we slipped away into the Land of Dreams.
We awoke much refreshed. Making our way to the Replenish-and-Restore Refectory we discovered the Abbess had provided for us a delicious breakfast of baked apple scone sprinkled with
freshly chopped mint leaves.
