Note to Reader. About the term Cycle of Necessity. Hermetic tradition holds that the soul evolves by developing the level of consciousness required to attract ever more complex forms. Through its experiences gained in the mineral, vegetable and animal realms, it has acquired the ability to attract and function self-consciously through the highest physical form - the human.

After shedding its physical form at death - its character and personality surviving the tomb - each individual soul has the potential to continue its progressive evolution up through the many astral and increasingly potent inner planes to the celestial realm.
